GOP Senator Mike Lee is facing the heat after an old video of him surfaced on the internet following President Joe Biden’s State of the Union speech on Tuesday, where he was caught on camera with a bewildered expression, shaking his head when the POTUS claimed that the Republicans wanted to take away social security, Medicare and Medicaid from Americans.

The policymaker from Utah accused Biden of lying and his expression even became viral on Twitter, going on to become a meme. But the internet sleuths have since then dug up a video from back in 2010, when Lee seems to tell a crowd of people that the GOP wants to “phase out Social Security, pull it up from the roots, get rid of it.”

His supporters broke out in applause in that old video, after which he continued saying, “People who advise me politically always tell me that’s dangerous and I tell them, in that case, it’s not worth my running. That’s why I am doing this. to get rid of that. Medicare and Medicaid are of the same sort and need to be pulled up.”

Biden SOTU speech was packed with much drama as the president accused some congressional Republicans of wanting to “take the economy hostage” by insisting that Medicare and Social Security be sunset. This claim drew many loud boos. “As we all apparently agree, Social Security and Medicare is off the books now, right?” Biden said, stressing the fact that he was willing to stop any effort to cut the social safety nets.

He also offered to discuss with Republicans their mutual fiscal plans. “We’ll pay for it the way we talked about: by making sure the wealthy and big corporations pay their fair share,” Biden said.
