The New Jersey city’s kindergarten teacher’s murder case has seen an update on Friday. Authorities have reported that an arrest has been made while the investigations to find the murderer still continues.
A kindergarten teacher, Luz Hernandez, was found dead in a shallow grave near Central Avenue and Third Street in Kearny. In the autopsy report released earlier, the Hudson County Prosecutor noted that Hernandez died of blunt force trauma to the head and compressions to the neck.

Hernandez was about 33-years-old. She worked at the BelovED Charter School. On Monday, the school filed a missing report for her after she failed to show up for work that day. Following which, a welfare check at her Van Horne Street home was conducted by Jerry City police. They apparently found evidence of a crime and reported it to the prosecutor’s office for assistance.
Later at 4:50 pm, police discovered Hernandez’s body near Central Avenue. Prosecutor Esther Suarez, in her statement, said that the body was found lying “in what appeared to be a shallow grave”. Hernandez was last seen leaving her relative’s home after visiting her children there on Saturday. Her kids reportedly spent the following night at the relative’s home only.
The Prosecutor office reported that the suspect has not been identified. Moreover, no charges have been mentioned in their announcement. As per their statements, there is “more to follow” in “the death investigation of Lucy Hernandez”.
Hernandez was a mother of three. She was separated from Junior Santana. Her sister, Jenny Taveras, spoke emotionally on Hernandez’s demise, “we can’t live without her, I’ll never fill this void”.
