A supporter of former US president Donald Trump is switching to the Democratic Party.
Samuel Thompson, a state senator from New Jersey who supported Trump as a delegate in 2016 and 2020 and has called his presidency a “success,” announced his resignation from the GOP after local party officials questioned his eligibility for office due to his advanced age.
Thompson also added that he believed his friends had betrayed him. According to him, “I am not leaving my party. My party leadership has left me.”
