Dont’a Hightower, a linebacker for the New England Patriots, declared his retirement on Tuesday after nine seasons in the NFL. Hightower made the announcement in an article for The Player’s Tribune, describing the occasion as “bittersweet.”
Hightower, the Patriots’ No. 25 selection in 2012, had 353 combined tackles, 27 sacks, and two forced fumbles in 117 regular-season games. In 17 postseason contests, he had 81 combined tackles and three sacks. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Hightower opted out of the 2020 season and did not participate in 2022.
