When Chris Pratt was announced as the new voice of Mario in the recently released Super Mario Bros, replacing the iconic voice of Charles Martinet, there was widespread speculation that it would not turn out well. However, since the release on April 7, there seems to be a consensus among fans on social media that Pratt has done the job better than expected.
“Chris Pratt’s performance as Mario was better than I expected, better than how he sounded in the trailers. I think he re-recorded his lines because he sounds different from the trailers, more dynamic and actually giving a personality to Mario that fits well,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Chris Pratt did a pretty good job as Mario.. makes me wonder what his voice will sound like when he plays Garfield in the new animated movie next year.. also I find it hilarious that Samuel l Jackson is voicing Garfield’s father in the movie,” said another.
“Came back from the Mario movie. It was absolutely BEAUTIFUL! I underestimated Chris Pratt. He was pretty talented as Mario; especially homaging both Lou Albano/Walker Boone’s portrayal from the 90s cartoons and the present Charles Martinet portrayal. Jack Black also nailed it,” wrote one.
“I personally think people owe Chris Pratt an apology. I think he smashed it! I get it’s not like the Mario we all know and love but I think the spin Chris put on his voice worked,” said another.
“Saw the Mario movie , Yup it deserves all the praise it’s getting and yes we gotta apologize to Chris Pratt I know we all love Charles but Chris did the best at what he had and it oddly worked,” another one said.
