Netflix has successfully captivated audiences with the enthralling release of its docuseries, “How to Become a Cult Leader.” The first episode is about the infamous cult leader Charles Manson and his followers.

Under Charles Manson’s manipulative influence, his followers were coerced into committing a series of horrifying crimes. The culmination of this dark path came on August 9th, 1969, when Manson’s followers carried out the brutal murders of Sharon Tate, the wife of director Roman Polanski and eight months pregnant at the time, along with four others at her residence. The following night, they struck again, taking the lives of Leno and Rosemary LaBianca in their home.

Who is Lynette Fromme?

Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme was born on October 22, 1948, in Santa Monica, California. Her parents were Helen and William Millar Fromme, with her father working as an aeronautical engineer.

During her childhood, Fromme showcased her talent as a performer and was part of a renowned dance group named the Westchester Lariats. The group gained popularity and embarked on tours across the United States and Europe in the late 1950s. Their remarkable journey even led them to make appearances on The Lawrence Welk Show and perform at the White House.

The former child performer did not partake in the Tate-LaBianca murders. Nevertheless, she became a devoted follower of Charles Manson and the Manson Family. Throughout the trials of Manson and other family members, Fromme displayed unwavering support by consistently camping outside the courthouse.

In 1975, Fromme’s life took a dramatic and infamous turn when she attempted to assassinate President Gerald Ford. During a public event, she brandished a gun with the intent to shoot the President, but her attempt was unsuccessful. As a consequence, she received a life sentence for her actions.

In 1987, Fromme briefly escaped from custody, creating a tense situation. However, authorities apprehended her, and she continued to serve her sentence. Eventually, she was released on parole in 2009 after spending a considerable time behind bars. Since her release, Fromme has largely maintained a low-profile, staying away from the public eye.
