The Australian cricket team battled England in a Super 12 group 1 match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on October 30. Coming into the match, both teams were unbeaten. While England looked like the superior side, Australia, too, were buoyant, owing to their wins.
Australia was invited to bat after England captain Eoin Morgan won the toss, got off to a dismal start. They lost Glenn Maxwell, David Warner and Steve Smith inside the powerplay. They had only 23 runs on the board.
For the match, Aaron Finch left out Mitch Marsh and included Ashton Agar in the playing XI.
Talking about Australia’s performance and the playing XI, Australia spin great Shane Warne slammed the team’s decision on both occasions.
“Disappointing selection from Australia leaving Marsh out & Maxwell batting in the power play (he should always come in after power play). Stoinis should have gone in. Poor strategy & tactics from the Aussies. I love Smith but he shouldn’t be in the T/20 team. Marsh has to be !!” Warne tweeted.
As far as the match was concerned, Australia were bowled out for 125 by England. After a batting collapse, the Australian cricket team was motored ahead by captain Finch, who top-scored with a 49-ball 44 while Ashton Agar contributed 20.
Chris Jordan was the pick of England bowlers with figures of 3/17 while Tymal Mills and Chris Woakes took two wickets each. While Liam Livingstone and Adil Rashid picked up one wicket apiece.
“We would have done the same. Looks like a really good wicket, doesn’t change throughout. The trend has been batting second but we can put a big score on the board and defend it later on. One change. Ashton Agar comes in for Mitch Marsh. Just a bit of a restructure there. Going with the five specialist bowlers, nothing more to it than that,” the Australian captain said at the toss.
