Sven appears as Kristoff’s reindeer and best friend in Disney’s 2013 animated feature film Frozen and its 2019 sequel Frozen II. Sven communicates through grunt-like vocals and Kristoff sometimes voices Sven’s thoughts through a “reindeer voice.” He is described as a reindeer with the heart of a Labrador, and Kristoff’s loyal friend, sleigh-puller, and conscience. In Frozen, Sven and Kristoff are first seen as children who join a group of ice harvesters during their work. They come across the royal family, and are led to the Valley of the Living Rock, where they are adopted by a female troll named Bulda. They start their own ice business later.  Kristoff and Sven are both played by Jonathan Groff in Frozen and Frozen II.

In Frozen II, Sven is assisting Kristoff, Olaf, and Princess Elsa in making the final preparations for Anna’s birthday. Sven also appears in the short film Frozen Fever (2015) and the featurette Olaf’s Frozen Adventure (2017).

Sven was created by Frozen directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee.

Sven also appears in the 2020 short film Once Upon a Snowman, that shows events from the first Frozen film from a different perspective.
