April 3 marks 341 death anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji, India’s bravest ruler. He was born on February 19, 1630, in the Shivneri fort in Pune. Born to Shahaji and Jijabai, Shivaji was a visionary, who dreamt of a wider Hindu nation that would also proclaim tolerance and comradeship in a tall manner.

On the occasion of Chhatrapati Shivaji’s 341 death anniversary let us take a look at some of the interesting facts about the bravest Maratha ruler:
- Shivaji’s name is not derived from Lord Shiva but from a regional deity whose name was Shivai. He was a legend of all time who got his God-like stature for his deeds.
- Shivaji was often opposed to the common belief of him being a Hindu king who fought Muslim. But the fact is he had many Muslim in his military rank, according to Scoopwhoop. He fought other rulers, who were a threat to his kingdom, not other religion.
- Persian was the language widely used for administrative purposes during the Mughal rule but during Shivaji’s regime, Marathi and Sanskrit language were introduced that replaced Persian.
- Shivaji initially had only 2,000 soldiers in his army, which his father left for him, but he converted it into 10,000 soldiers.
- He stood for the honour of women, he protected them and no one under his rule was allowed to dishonour women.
- At the age of 52, Shivaji suffered from fever and dysentery and took his last breath on April 3, 1680
