Vidit Santosh Gujrathi was born October 24, 1994. In 2013, he attained the title of Grandmaster and become the 30th player from India to do so. In August 2021, he became the third highest rated player in India, behind Viswanathan Anand and Pentala Harikrishna. He also holds the record of being the fourth Indian player to have crossed the Elo rating threshold of 2700.

Gujrathi was born in Nashik to Santosh Gujrathi and Nikita Santosh Gujrathi. He studied at Fravashi Academy and starting playing chess from an early age. In 2006, he finished second in the Asian Youth Championships in the U12 category and received the title of FIDE Master.

He clinched the World Youth Chess Championship in the Open U14 section in 2008. He was the first Indian to do so.
