KBC Offline Quiz (August 27, 2021): Which among these acts as a chemical messenger between neurons?

Answer: Dopamine

Dopamine, a neurotransmitter, is used by our nervous system to send messages between nerve cells. It is also known as a chemical messenger. This chemical plays a role in how we feel pleasure and it is a part of our unique human ability to think and plan. Dopamine helps humans strive, focus, and find things interesting.

It is spread along four major pathways in the brain. Like most other systems in the body, you don’t notice it (or maybe even know about it) until there’s a problem.

Too much or too little of Dopamine can lead to a vast range of health issues, including Parkinson’s disease.

A two-step process is involved in its making. First, it changes the amino acid tyrosine to a substance called dopa, and then into dopamine.
