Three more COVID-19 cases have been reported in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) on Tuesday following Islamabad United leg spinner Fawad Ahmed’s positive test yesterday. 

Monday’s PSL clash between Islamabad United and the Quetta Gladiators was rescheduled for Tuesday after Ahmed’s COVID-19 test returned positive. 

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has said that the remainder of the tournament will not be disrupted. 

In a statement on Tuesday, the PSL said RT-PCR tests had been conducted on a total of 244 people associated with the league since Ahmed was found positive, with three returning positive.

“These individuals, including two foreign players and local player support personnel, have been quarantined at a separate floor of the team hotel,” the statement read.

“Just under 300 people are inside the bubble, including players, support staff, families, owners, match officials and security officers, who will undergo repeat PCR tests on Thursday,” the PSL statement added. 

Meanwhile, Sami Burney, PCB’s Director of Media, did not confirm the names of the three individuals who tested positive. 

“I can confirm that two foreign players and one support staff member have tested positive from the results of the 244 PCR tests we had conducted on all the franchises their officials and support staff since yesterday,” Burney said at a presser at the National Stadium, Karachi on Tuesday. 

However, he confirmed that one of the three positive cases was a Islamabad United cricketer. 

Earlier in February, Pehsawar Zalmi skipper Wahab Riaz and coach Darren Sammy had to undergo a three-fay quarantine, which was later relaxed, after coming into contact with person from outside the bio-secure bubble, according to a report in ESPNcricinfo. That person was later confirmed to be their team owner Javed Afridi.
