The ongoing farmers’ protest against the Centre’s farm laws entered Day 63 on Wednesday. The tractor rally held by farmers on Republic day took a violent turn as police resorted to lathicharge and fired tear gas shells to disperse protestors in multiple locations in Delhi.
Tuesday’s chaos included protestors breaching the Red Fort, several metro stations getting closed, traffic being diverted and internet services getting snapped in various areas.
While several police personnel were injured, a protestor died in the violence at ITO.
The protestors later started to return to their sit-in protest sites at the Singhu, Tikri and Ghazipur borders.
Thousands of farmers have been camped at various border sites around Delhi to protest against the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, enacted during the Monsoon session of the Parliament in September.
