Andrew Cuomo, the former Governor of New York and a member of the Democratic party, hinted that he may make a political comeback in a campaign-like event on Sunday. Cuomo resigned from office after a string of sexual harassment allegations were put on him.
In a Brooklyn church on Sunday, Cuomo made his first public appearance since resigning from office nearly six months ago. The former Governor also used the event to slam “cancel culture.”
The public appearance came nearly a week after Cuomo launched a digital and television advertising campaign pushing a similar message: He was driven from office unfairly.
Cuomo accused prosecutors of using cancel culture to “effectively overturn an election”. He said, “The actions against me were prosecutorial misconduct.”
Letitia James, the Attorney General of New York and also a member of the Democratic party, headed the investigation against Cuomo. A report from her office concluded that at least 11 women were sexually harassed by then-Governor Cuomo.
James, soon after Cuomo made an appearance on Sunday, hit back with a statement from her reelection campaign. The statement read, “Serial sexual harasser Andrew Cuomo won’t even spare a house of worship from his lies”, according to reports from Associated Press.
James added, “Even though multiple independent investigations found his victims to be credible, Cuomo continues to blame everyone but himself.”
On Sunday, Cuomo acknowledged his behavior wasn’t appropriate but quickly added that nothing he did violated the law.
“I did not appreciate how fast the perspectives changed,” he said. “I have learned a powerful lesson and paid a very high price for learning that lesson. God is not finished with me yet.”
Cuomo has not said he is running for office, but is still sitting on a multimillion dollar campaign war chest he could use to finance another run.
