International Literacy Day is celebrated every year worldwide on September 8. It is celebrated to spread awareness about the importance of literacy as a matter of dignity and human rights. In 1967, the first international Literacy Day was observed.

In 1966, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) declared September 8 as the International Literacy Day. A citizen of India above age of 7, who can read and write in any language is considered to be literate.

Here are some scholarships which offer education to an underprivileged childrens:

National Book Fund

The NBF provides educational materials to both adult learning programs and basic education programs to help teach adults and children to read. It also supports literacy programs that can afford textbooks which is why teachers should be teaching without them or students should share old books with others. The INBF provides them with the necessary resources to continue their education.

Digital Bharati Covid Scholarship

This program supports those children who have lost one or both parents in Covid-19. Those studying between classes 1 to 12 can apply for the program. Childrens will also be provided with educational registration of edtech companies and tablets or laptops.

Pre-Matric Scholarships Scheme for Minorities

Provided by the Ministry of Minority Affairs, this study, as the name suggests is for students in classes 1 to 10 in small communities. Those within Muslim, Sikh, Christian, Buddhist, Jain, Persian / Zoroastrian communities may apply to study. However, they are required to obtain at least a 50% mark on their last test. In addition, the annual family income should be less than lakh rupees per year. Students will receive admission fees, tuition fees, and maintenance fees.

Mazda Foundation

The foundation aims to help organizations seeking funding to promote education and learning. Basically, if an organizational project is in line with the basic purpose, they provide grants to further their work. The Mazda Foundation focuses on grant applications from organizations in the United States.

COVID Crisis (Jyoti Prakash) Support Scholarship Program 2021

The program supports the remaining children with little or no financial support for their continuing education due to the COVID-19 crisis in their families. It is open to students from class 1 to graduation. Those who have lost a parent or parents or a earning member of family or the loss of job of earning member, can apply for the scholarships.
