Netflix has wrapped up a huge $30 million deal and got the global rights to Sam Levinson’s “Malcolm & Marie,” starring John David Washington and Zendaya. Notably, the film was the first post-pandemic movie to complete its production.
The sale came out of this year’s Toronto International Film Festival that happened virtually and was dominated by Netflix’s deals.
“So grateful to this cast and crew, many of whom are my Euphoria family, for coming together during such uncertain times. We felt privileged to be able to make this film together and we did so with a lot of love. We are all thrilled that it has ended up with Netflix which is unparalleled in allowing filmmakers the freedom to tell their stories that reach audiences all over the world,” said writer and director Levinson, Deadline reported.
The online streaming platform also acquired deals of $20 million for the worldwide rights to “Bruised,” a 2020 Americal sports film directed by Halle Berry and purchased “Pieces of a Woman,” a 2020 American-Canadian drama film directed by Kornel Mundruczo.
