A struggling Manchester United stumbled to yet another humiliating defeat at the hands of Arsenal on Saturday, and while many are looking forward to better days under incoming manager Erik ten Hag, reports from inside the dressing room suggest that the rot runs deep.
After United were dealt a blow to their quest to finish in the top-four of the Premier League on Saturday, club legend Paul Scholes spoke with substitute Jesse Lingard about the situation at the club and the morale of the squad.
“I had a quick chat with Jesse [Lingard] the other day and I’m sure he won’t mind me saying that the dressing room is just a disaster,” Reuters quoted Scholes as saying.

“It is an absolute mess. It is a disaster of a dressing room,” the United legend further told German publication DAZN.
While Lingard, who spent a spell away on loan at West Ham, did not immediately respond to media outlets’ requests for a quote, United manager Ralf Rangnick was coy when quizzed about the young midfielder’s comments about the state of the squad.
“I don’t know, you have to ask Jesse Lingard if you have this information,” Rangnick told reporters after his side’s loss to Arsenal.
“Obviously after games like today or the games at Liverpool or Everton, there is massive disappointment in the locker room for sure. This is normal,” the German said.

“I think the whole group, they get on reasonable with each other. I’m not daring to say they get on well with each other but I don’t see that there is an issue with regard to the atmosphere in the locker room,” Rangnick added in a bid to play down suggestions of unrest in the dressing room.
However, his suggestion that United players are not getting on well with each other does corroborate various reports about growing dissatisfaction with the club: several players, including the likes of Paul Pogba, are slated to leave United come summer, while others, like Bruno Fernandes, seem to be growing increasingly frustrated of late with his team’s dismal performances.
While a change is indeed expected to take place with the arrival of ten Hag in summer, who has reportedly been promised £200 million to rebuild the team, United could experience a mass exodus before things start improving again.
