Five new cast members have joined the Disney+ series ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians.’
Virginia Kull, Glynn Turman, Jason Mantzoukas, Megan Mullally, and Timm Sharp will appear as recurring guests.
The casting announcement comes after the start of production on Thursday in Vancouver.

Aryan Simhadri and Leah Sava Jeffries, who will play Percy’s friends Grover Underwood and Annabeth Chase, will join Walker Scobell in the lead role.
The show is based on Rick Riordan’s book series, which follows Percy Jackson, a 12-year-old modern demigod who is only beginning to understand his unexpected supernatural abilities when the sky god Zeus blames him for stealing his master lightning bolt.
To find it and restore order to Olympus, Percy must go on an epic journey with his friends Grover and Annabeth.

Mullally will play Alecto, a.k.a. Mrs Dodds, Percy’s severe, irascible math teacher, who can act monstrously at times due to her position.
She is one of three Alecto Furies that zealously serve Hades, the deity of the underworld.
Turman will play another of Percy’s mythological professors, Chiron, a.k.a. Mr Brunner. Chiron, disguised as Mr Brunner, Percy’s Latin instructor, is a famous centaur and hero trainer who gives moral advice to Percy when he needs it.

Dionysus, commonly known as Mr D, is played by Mantzoukas. Mr D, the demigod in charge of Camp Half-Blood, is a grumpy and caustic demigod.
Kull will portray Sally Jackson, Percy’s loving, nurturing, and devoted mother.
Sally knew she’d have to hand her son up to the frightening world of the Olympian gods at some point.
Sharp will play Gabe Ugliano, Sally’s selfish, rude, and belligerent husband and Percy’s stepfather.

The release date of the series has not been announced yet.
Riordan and Jon Steinberg are writing the pilot. The film will be directed by James Bobin.
