The US has
issued an advisory for its citizens against travelling to the United Kingdom
amid rising cases of COVID-19 there. Both the US State Department and the US
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued on Monday their highest
warnings regarding travel.

The warning
issued is “Level Four,” which tells Americans they should avoid travel
there, Reuters reported. In May, the US government had lowered the UK to a
“Level 3” advisory rating

“If
you must travel to the United Kingdom, make sure you are fully vaccinated
before travel,” Reuters quoted the CDC advisory. The State Department
warning explicitly told the citizen not to travel to the UK due to the COVID
situation.

The new
cases of COVID-19 are on the rise in the UK with the daily caseload crossing 50,000.
The government in the country is asking hundreds of thousands of its citizens to
self-isolate for 10 days as per the pandemic rules.

The US has
closed its borders to all the non-US citizens who have a recent travel history
to the UK since March 2020 when the pandemic first got out of hand. On the
other hand, UK allows American visits on a condition of mandatory 10-day
quarantine on arrival and two COVID-19 tests.

The travel
industry is lobbying with the Joe Biden administration to lift the restrictions
that bar most non-US citizens who have been in Britain, the 26 Schengen nations
in Europe, Ireland, China, India, South Africa, Iran, and Brazil within the past
14 days from the United States, the Reuters report said.

The
officials from the US government and airlines say that they do not expect the
restrictions on UK travelers to be lifted until August at the earliest, while
warning that it could even be later than that.
