Photo-sharing app Instagram was down across the globe on Thursday. Users faced problems while uploading pictures and stories. According to Downdetector, both Android and iOS users were facing issues with the mobile application of Instagram.

The problem started at 11.27am. At 12.27am on Thursday, over 3,000 users of Instagram had reported an issue on the website monitor. The cause of the outage is still unknown.

In the past, global outages and service disruptions have hit websites and Internet services.

Earlier this week, micro-blogging site Twitter users in India also reported some issues due to which they were unable to load the feed or access the website. The issue, however, lasted only for a few minutes before it was resolved by the company.

In August, the photo-sharing app users across the United States and the United Kingdom reported an error message when they open the application with some features seemingly not working.

“Try again later- we limit how often you can do certain things on Instagram to protect our community” was the message that is greeting many users throughout the world.

Some users said their stories were blank while others were not able to do almost anything on their favourite pastime. The hashtag #instagramdown began trending on Twitter as users demanded a fix.

“I got heart attack I thought that Instagram banned my account #instagramdown,” a social media user wrote.

In June, several popular websites, including BBC, New York Times, The Guardian, CNN, Reddit, Spotify, Twitch, Stack Overflow, GitHub, gov.uk, Hulu, HBO Max, Quora, PayPal, Vimeo, Shopify faced an outage for a brief period. This glitch was caused by an outage at data centre Fastly, a popular Content Delivery Network (CDN) provider. Fastly has confirmed the issue on its status website.
