Shivpal Singh Yadav is a politician from Uttar Pradesh, India. He is a younger brother of Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav and uncle of the former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh Yadav.
Yadav is a Member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Jaswant Nagar constituency since 1996. He was a cabinet minister in the Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party government before resigning from the post in 2016. Yadav founded the Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohiya) after leaving the Samajwadi Party on August 29, 2018.

He will contest the Uttar Pradesh Assembly Election 2022 from Jaswant Nagar in Uttar Pradesh as a candidate of the Samajwadi Party-Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohia) alliance.
Shivpal Singh Yadav was born on April 6, 1955, to parents Sughar Singh and Murti Devi at Saifai Village, Etawah District. He completed his schooling at Jain Inter College, Karhal Mainpuri in 1974. He earned a Bachelors of Arts (BA) degree from Karm Kshetra Post Graduate College of Kanpur University in Etawah in 1976. He also completed a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from the University of Lucknow in 1977.

Shivpal Yadav married Sarla Yadav in 1981. His son Aditya Yadav is a political leader and his daughter Anubha Yadav is a medical practitioner.
According to his election affidavit, Yadav owns assets worth Rs 11.77 crore and has liabilities worth Rs 3 crore against him. Social work and agriculture are mentioned as his profession. No criminal cases are registered against Yadav, according to the affidavit.

Shivpal Singh Yadav was elected as the president of the district co-operative bank from 1988 to 1991. He was also the President of Etawah District Panchayat from 1995 to 1996. Shivpal Yadav contested his first assembly election in the 13th Uttar Pradesh assembly elections in 1996 from Jaswant Nagar constituency and won. He was appointed the state general secretary of the Samajwadi Party.

In 2009, he was appointed as the leader of the Opposition during the Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party government. In 2012, the Samajwadi Party formed the government in Uttar Pradesh with a full majority and Shivpal Singh Yadav was appointed as the cabinet minister for the departments of irrigation and PWD. In August 2018, he resigned from all positions in the government and the Samajwadi Party following an internal dispute within the party.
