Chef Saransh Goila on June 4 took to Instagram to share a simple trick to prevent your eyes from tearing while chopping onions.
In the video, he explained that freezing peeled onions for 10-30 minutes and then chopping them would do the trick. He added that the root end should also not be chopped out.

Goila further added that there is no foolproof hack but this is the closest to being successful according to him.
Many users in the comment section shared their own tricks. One said, %u201CI cut the onions in half and kept them in a bowl of water for around 5-10 mins with their peels intact. Then I take them out, peel and cut them. No tears! Works fine for me. Plus it helps to peel them faster%u201D.

While slicing the onion, cells are released into the air that irritates the nerves around the eyes.
