JayDaYoungan, the Louisiana rapper, was shot dead, Bogalusa police confirmed.

Known for songs like 23 Island and Elimination, the 24-year-old is estimated to be worth nearly $1.5 million as of 2022.

Javorius Tykies Scott or Jay, from Louisiana, had a tough childhood and the realities of his surroundings, growing up, led to a focus on gang activities due to a lack of things to do. The rapper turned to music as an outlet for emotional and mental pain. When he was in the eleventh grade, JayDaYoungan first began to make music.

However, he only gained popularity after putting his work up on SoundCloud, where indie artists can receive between $2.50–$4 for every stream and for every 1000 audio plays.

Tracks like Catch Me In Traffic became favourites, getting several million plays. He then turned his attention to YouTube, where JayDaYoungan tasted success in 2018 when his Interstate music video broke four million views in a few days. Reportedly, the platform pays artists $1,000-$2,000 for a million views.

“I didn’t take it serious until I dropped a song on YouTube”, he had told HypeBeast, continuing, “I got the feedback on it and the fans were loving it and they reacted to it. I got a lot of love and they were telling me I needed to take it serious and that I had the voice for it”.

He landed a spot on the XXL Freshman List in 2018, which has included talents like Lil Uzi Vert, whose life turned around after making it to this annual elite rapper group.

The budding talent soon received offers from many music labels but chose to sign with Atlantic Records, which represents artists like ABBA and 100 gecs.

JayDaYoungan might have dropped out of high school in the final year, but with his music, he had tried to make it out of his hometown, whose median household income was barely over the state’s $45,727, lower-than-average figure.
