Moreover, a number of countries that were previously under German colonial rule, also have considerable chunks of their population who can speak the language. Such countries include Cameroon, which has the largest German-speaking population in Africa, alongside Namibia, which has its own pidgin language based on German called Namibian Black German.
Many internationally renowned poets and writers have written in the German language, including Goethe, Franz Kafka, Bertolt Brecht, and Gunter Grass.
