Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the civil hospital in Gujrat’s Morbi, pictures of ongoing repair work have brought the Bharatiya Janata Party ridicule from the likes of the Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress.
The city of Morbi is where a suspension bridge came crashing down on Sunday, October 30 leaving at least 135 dead and roughly 170 injured.
Sharing images of the renovations, the Congress said that they were being done in order to ensure that there are good photographs taken of the prime minister.
“Event of tragedy
Tomorrow PM Modi will visit Civil Hospital in Morbi. Before that, the work of painting is being done. Glazed tiles are being installed.
They are not ashamed! So many people have died but they [Modi] are busy with events,” the Indian National Congress account wrote on Twitter.
The Twitter account for the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP shared a video of people painting the walls at the civil hospital in Morbi, saying that the work was being done so as to avoid exposing the poor condition of the building.

“Morbi Civil Hospital is being painted overnight so that the poor condition of the building does not get exposed tomorrow during PM Modi’s photoshoot,” the party said in Hindi, adding, “141 people have died, hundreds are missing, no action has been taken against the real culprits, but the BJP has to cover up by doing photoshoots.”
Morbi is a town located in the Saurashtra region of Gujrat. The bridge that collapsed on Sunday had been built sometime during the British-era but had undergone renovation work only last week.
However, preliminary investigation found that there were technical and structural flaws in the bridge as well as some maintenance issues that were responsible for the collapse, according to the police in an Hindustan Times report.
