Launched on December 7, 2018, at 18:23 UTC, Yutu-2 is the robotic lunar rover for China’s Chang’e 4 mission to the Moon. On December 12, 2018, it entered lunar orbit, and on January 3, 2019, it made its first soft landing on the far side of the Moon. It is the oldest lunar rover and the first to travel over the far side of the Moon.

A few days after landing, Yutu-2 entered its first lunar night of sleep before resuming operations on January 29, 2019, with all instruments functioning as intended.
The rover travelled 120 metres (390 feet) during its first full lunar day, then on February 11th, 2019, it shut down for its second lunar night. According to a report from May 2019, Chang’e 4 has apparently found what seem to be mantle rocks on the surface, which was the mission’s main goal.
