India set England a target of 169 runs to chase in 20 overs in the second semifinal of the T20 World Cup at the Adelaide Oval, Australia.
Here’s a powerplay analysis of both the teams:
India after powerplay: 38/1 ( Fours: 4, Sixes: 1)
India had a decent start in the powerplay. KL Rahul started the innings with a four, but soon perished in the second over. After three overs, India were languishing at 11/1.

However, Rohit Sharma‘s timely boundaries helped India finish the powerplay in a marginally better position than it had begun. India started the ounterattack’s with a fourth over-first ball six from Virat Kohli. Then, Rohit Sharma turned his attention to Sam Curran, hitting the bowler for two straight fours. This released some pressure from the Men in Blue.
Spinner Adil Rashid bowled the final over of the powerplay. He was immediately greeted with a boundary by Sharma. India eventually finished the powerplay at a 38/1.
England after powerplay: 63/0 (Fours: 7, Sixes: 3)
This was the worst powerplay bowled by India in the T20 World Cup. Alex Hales was the chief architect of the carnage, hitting Indian bowlers for three sixes and a four. However, it was Jos Buttler who set the tone for England.
In the first over itself, he put India on the backfoot, hitting three fours. The first over went for 13 runs, a score that India touched in the fourth over with the loss of a wicket. Arshdeep Singh bowled a comparatively decent second over, conceding 8 runs. The second over of Bhuvaneshwar Kumar went for 12 runs, with Hales hammering him for a six.

In the next over, Rohit Sharm brought in spinner Axar Patel, whom Buttler welcomed with a four. Sharma made another change in the fourth over, bringing in Mohammad Shami. However, there was no stopping Hales. as he hit Shami for a six and a four. The next over also was expensive, with Patel conceding 11 runs, to help England finish the powerplay at 63/0.
