Marvel phase four will conclude with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The sequel to the much-successful 2018 film Black Panther, follows the story of the Wakandans as they strive to keep their nation safe from intervening powers and grieve their king T’Challa’s (Chadwick Boseman) death.  

This sequel will introduce many new characters, which will grow significantly to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the story progresses. One of them is Ironheart, introduced in the comics as a 15-year-old tech genius and a huge fan of Iron Man.

Who is Ironheart? 

Ironheart is the superhero alias of Riri Williams, first introduced in Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2016, where she was featured on the pages of The Invincible Iron Man. Williams considers Iron Man as her mentor, and in later events, teams up with Spider-Man Miles Morales and Ms. Marvel, and even fight Thanos. 

Ironheart is introduced as a prodigy, who aims to become an astronaut until the death of her stepfather and best friend, which changes her decision. When Tony Stark can no longer be the beloved Iron Man, Williams takes up the responsibility in an iron suit designed on her own. 

Williams is a 15-year-old girl studying at MIT, who builds a suit of armor entirely on her own, in her dorm room, which catches the attention of Tony Stark. 

Williams could not complete her superhero suit without a well-functioning Artificial Intelligence, so she asks Stark for one. 

The events of Civil War II leave Stark incapacitated. Still, Stark recognized the genius Williams and created an advanced AI construct of himself to help the young Williams in her superhero journey, while he recovers from the coma. She receives the AI and completes her suit.

Ironheart is a significant character in Black Panther Wakanda Forever. She pairs up with Shuri, the princess of Wakanda to help the nation from the invasion of intervening powers. 

Ironheart’s original series will premiere in late 2023 and will be a part of MCU’s phase 5.
