Manikarnika was born on 19th November, 1828 and was married to Gangadhar Rao, the Maharaja on Jhansi.

Also known are Laxmibai , Manikarnika was the queen of&nbsp; the Maratha Princely state of Jhansi. One of the leading figures in the 1857 rebellion against the British Raj, she was a true nationalist.&nbsp;&nbsp;She died from wounds received in the battle on 17 June 1858.

The warrior's tomb is situated in the Phool Bag area of Gwalior. After twenty years of her death, Collonel Malleson wrote in journal called&nbsp;<i>History of the Indian Mutiny:&nbsp;</i>

"Whatever her faults in British eyes may have been, her countrymen will ever remember that she was driven by ill-treatment into rebellion, and that she lived and died for her country, We cannot forget her contribution for India."
