Former chief minister Tirath Singh Rawat and Union minister of state for sports and youth affairs Kiren Rijiju inaugurated the Water Sports and Adventure Institute in Koti Colony at Tehri in April 2021.
“No matter what the adverse circumstances, the ITBP jawans have always carried out rescue and relief operations without caring about their lives," the Tirath Singh Rawat said.
He claimed that in a bid to promote tourism in Uttarakhand, Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board and the government had setup the water sports and adventure institute in the Tehri Lake area.
“There will be training in many adventure sports including para gliding, para motor, parasailing boat, scuba driving, hot air balloon, kayaking, canoeing, rock climbing, gumming, rappelling and all-terrain bikes,” he added
According to the official website of ITBP police, the institute has following objectives.
To train the personnel of ITBP, State Police Forces, Local Youths of Uttarakhand and Other CAPFs in the Water Sports in different types of Adventure Sports, Water Rescue & Life Saving Courses.
Introduction of newer courses in Disaster Management.
Specialized training in flood rescue.
Training of military/CI Ops in water Bodies.
To organize various competition in Water Sports on National & International Platform.
