Since American Idol's season finale marked the end of season 4 fans have been feeling a bit blue. American Idol has been officially renewed for another season. The singing competition announced that the search for the next big superstar will continue in 2022.
This year's season finale resulted in Chayce Beckham being crowned the champion. Trish Kinane is stepping down from her position and executive producer Megan Michaels Wolflick will take her place, according to reports.
So, what does this mean for the show? It's unclear right now. It is often observed that when showrunners are switched and/or replaced, the show will look a bit different when it returns. Right now, it's too early to declare when American Idol season 5 will premiere on ABC.

Based on the premiere dates of the last two seasons, there's a good chance that the singing competition show will come out sometime in mid-February of 2022.
More than likely, judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie will return for another season. Although there hasn’t been any official news about them signing contracts for the next season, fans need not worry just yet.
Likewise, Ryan Seacrest as well as mentor Bobby Bones are probably also going to return to the ABC competition show for the 2022 season. Producers have already started looking for the next American Idol.
