Fragrance of charity: Horns locked between Prince Harry, Meghan Markles charity and Filipino deodorant maker
- The businessman has so far refused to back down from his claim
- Meghan Markle's legal representative, Federis and Associates Law Offices, blocked the final trademark registration for Soriano's company
- The two sides are so far embroiled in a legal tussle
A recent storm, apparently legal in nature, has been brewing
between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and the owner of a deodorant company in
Philippines, in what appears to be a case of a fight for naming rights. The
name Archewell is contested between the two sides, and none are likely to give
up.
The charity foundation by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle,
known as Archewell, happens to be sharing its name with the first name of the tawas
deodorant company owned by Philippines-based businessman Victor Martin Soriano,
as per a report by ANCX.

Reportedly, Soriano said in one of his recent tweets that Federis
and Associates Law Offices, the firm representing Markle, blocked the final
trademark registration for Archewell Harvatera, his deodorant brand. He was further
stated in the report as saying that the legal representatives of the Royal
Family members were requested to submit a notarised answer on March 28 to make
the complaint formal.
“I merged two words, so that makes it a different word
already. So (Meghan) should not run after me,” Soriano was quoted by ANCX as
saying.
Soriano’s inspiration behind the naming is reported to be Gina
Sarabia Espinosa, wife of former Iloilo City mayor Jose Espinosa III, who
reportedly named her jewellery brand Archewell.
The businessman has so far refused to back down from his
claim, and says he would do it only in case of Queen Elizabeth II asking him to
quit using the Archewell Harvatera name.
