Joints for Jabs: Washington provides free marijuana at vaccination centres

As part of the strategy to encourage people to get vaccinated, the state of Washington will allow the age group of 21 and above to claim a free marijuana joint when they receive COVID-19 vaccine shots. The state’s board for liquor and cannabis announced on Monday that the campaign ‘Joints for Jabs’ would be effective till July 12, reported the New York Times.

The board said that marijuana retailers would be allowed to offer customers, who are aged 21 and above, a pre-rolled joint after they receive their vaccine doses. The campaign is applicable only for joints, and not to other products such as edibles. 58% of people in the state have received at least one dose, while 49% have completed their two dosages. reported the New York Times.

An Arizona dispensary also recently announced a similar campaign promoting cannabis. The dispensary provided free marijuana and gummy edibles to the people of the age group 21 and above, in the state.

Washington’s board for liquor and cannabis also recently allowed free wine, cocktail or beer, to residents, who received COVID-19 vaccines. 

In mid-April, the vaccination rates began to decline significantly. And consequently, these promotions were implemented. Several states held lotteries awarding cash prizes and more, reported the New York Times.
