Kotak list estimates HCLs Roshni Nadar to be richest Indian woman
- Nadar Malhotra's estimated wealth is Rs 54,850 crore
- The report states women-led enterprises encountering a much greater extent of problems
- 32 women in the list chose Mumbai as the preferred city
HCL Chairperson
Roshni Nadar Malhotra has been estimated to be India’s wealthiest women by the
recent ‘Kotak Wealth Hurun-Leading Wealthy Women’ list
compiled in 2020 released on Thursday. Nadar Malhotra, with an estimated wealth
of Rs 54,850 crore, is currently CEO and Executive Director of HCL Corporation,
a company that controls HCL Tech and HCL Infosystems.
The second position is held by Biocon founder and MD of Biocon,
Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw who has to her name a total wealth of Rs 36,600 crore.

Leena Gandhi
Tewari, charing USV, an organisation specialising in the medical field in India,
is in the third position with Rs 21,340 crore.
‘Kotak
Mahindra Hurun-Leading Wealthy Women’ is a list marking the wealthiest women in
India, with the average wealth being Rs 2,275 crore.
The
report states women-led enterprises encountering a much greater extent of problems
including limited funding opportunities and are affected disproportionately
during the pandemic.
The
list includes Eight Padma Awardees, while 31 are self-made. Six women are professional
managers and 25 are listed as entrepreneurs. Among the last category, six women
from the start-up ecosystem feature on the list, with two of them having turned
their companies into Unicorns – Falguni Nayar (Nykaa) and Divya Gokulnath (Byju’s).

Kiran
Mazumdar-Shaw is the only self-made pharmaceutical sector representative on the
list.
Six
women from the Kotak Wealth – Hurun Leading Wealthy Women 2020 also feature in
the Hurun Global Rich List 2020, of which Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw of Biocon, Radha
Vembu of Zoho and Jayshree Ullal of Arista Networks are self-made women
entrepreneurs.
Mumbai
has largely featured as the city of choice, chosen by 32 women in the list. Delhi
followed with 20 instances of it being chosen, and Hyderabad captured the third
place with 10 choices.
