West Bengal polls: Mamata Banerjee to contest from Nandigram

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday announced that she will contest from Nandigram in the upcoming assembly elections. The Trinamool Congress released a list of 291 candidates who will contest in the West Bengal elections starting from March 27.

“Today, we are releasing a list of 291 candidates which includes 50 women, 42 Muslim candidates. On 3 seats of north Bengal, we not putting up our candidates,” Mamata was quoted as saying by ANI.

“I will contest from Nandigram. From Bhowanipore constituency, Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay will be contesting in the upcoming assembly elections,” the chief minister added.

“We have given assembly poll tickets to eminent personalities from the field of arts, sports, media and culture,” Banerjee said, as per PTI.

Banerjee informed that she will visit Nandigram on March 9 and file the nomination on March 10.

Voting in West Bengal will be held in 8 phases starting from March 27. The counting of votes will take place on May 2.
