Whatsapp Pink: Hackers are back, this time in pretty pink

‘Whatsapp Pink’, which offers  messaging platform WhatsApp in pink, is the new tool hackers are using to lure users to click on a link that helps them gain access to phones and steal data. A message containing the APK link asks users to download the app for ‘better user experience in pink colour and added new features’. 

Internet security researcher Rajshekhar Rajaharia took to Twitter to warn people about this fraud.” Don’t click on any link with the name of WhatsApp Pink. Complete access to your phone will be lost” said Rajaharia.

He also provided screenshots showing the clone interface to prey users. 

Rajaharia told 360 Gadgets that the link was initially targeted at police and media personals. The link was sent to him by Delhi Police inspector Data Ram Yadav who found the link being circulated in one of the police groups.

This is not the first time hackers have tried to attack the user base of WhatsApp. In the past WhatsApp Gold, a Whatsapp clone created by hackers to gain user data was in circulation. 

Needless to say, this was not an official update by Whatsapp. In their official statement, Whatsapp advises its users to report such messages to the company and block the contacts sending them such links.
