Medical entrance exam NEET postponed amid surge in COVID-19 cases

  • The exam was earlier scheduled to be held on April 18
  • Health minister Vardhan said new date of the exam will be decided later

The Centre on Thursday decided to postpone medical entrance National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-Postgraduate exam amid surge in coronavirus cases, reported ANI quoting Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan.

The exam was earlier scheduled to be held on April 18. Vardhan said new date of the exam will be decided later.

India on Thursday reported 2 lakh coronavirus cases, highest single-day spike so far.

Earlier in the day, a group of MBBS doctors approached the apex court seeking the postponement of exams.

On Wednesday, the Central Board of Secondary Education decided to cancel class 10 exams and postpone class 12 papers. In view of the rising COVID-19 cases, many state boards, including Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and Punjab, have either cancelled or postponed exams.
