Despite an ever-growing call by students to postpone competitive examinations like the NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) and JEE (Joint Entrance Examination),  the government is unlikely to delay them further, reports say.

The Ministry of Education, too, has not released any official statement after the Supreme Court ruled that there was no need to postpone the exams on the pretext of COVID-19, while rejecting a plea on Monday. According to sources, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has already issued admit cards for the JEE (Main) exam

Rajya Sabha MP and BJP leader Subramanian Swamy on Friday said that he has spoken to the Minister of Education regarding postponement of NEET  and other such tests. Swamy said he will also be sending a letter to PM Narendra Modi in this regard.

“I have just spoken to the Minister of Education suggesting that NEET and other exams be conducted after Deepavali. The SC order the other day is not a bar since the Hon’ble Court has left the date to the government. I am sending an urgent letter to the PM just now,” Swamy said in a tweet.

He said that at a time when COVID-19 cases are rising by 70,000 per day, the Education Ministry should approach the Chief Justice of India for conducting the examinations around November.

The NEET 2020 is set to be conducted on September 13, while JEE (Main) is supposed to be held from September 1 to 6.
