2009 film Avatar’ is breaking all-time box-office record in China

James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’ is once again dominating China’s box office over the weekend by adding $14.1 million to its record as the world’s top-grossing film of all time, reports Hollywoodreporter.com.

Over the past 10 days, the 2009 blockbuster has earned $41 million on rerelease, lifting its career total in China to $250.2 million.

The return of Cameron’s sci-fi fantasy event movie came as something of a surprise to China’s moviegoers, after regulators cleared the film for re-release just three days in advance.

The film was enjoying the title of world’s biggest blockbuster for nearly a decade until Marvel’s 2019 juggernaut ‘Avengers: Endgame’ took the spot in 2019 with earning of $2.7902 billion.

Cameron, in the past, said that his sci-fi blockbuster may have had a subconscious reference to hindu mythology..

“I just have loved every thing, the mythology, the entire Hindu pantheon, seems so rich and vivid,” Cameron told an audience of filmmakers and actors during his visit to the country in 2010.
