“Action will be taken”, says Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh on Tandav row

The controversy over Saif Ali Khan and Dimple Kapadia starrer web-series ‘Tandav’ refuses to die down and in a fresh development, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh said that they have received a complaint against the show and will take necessary action.

“We have received a complaint regarding web series ‘Tandav’, action will be taken as per the law. Central government should bring legislation in regard to OTT (over-the-top) platforms: Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh,” said Deshmukh, reports ANI.

The Amazon Prime Video Original show sparked controversy over a scene in which Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub’s onscreen character Shiva plays the role of Mahadev in theatre production and talks about freedom. Some sections of society, including political figures, sought a ban on the series alleged that Lord Shiva and Lord Ram have been insulted in the very first episode.

Looking at the growing debate, the makers issued an apology followed by a statement that stated that necessary changes will be made in the controversial scene.

“We have the utmost respect for the sentiments of the people of our country. We did not intend to hurt or offend the sentiments of any individual, caste, community, race, religion, or religious beliefs or insult or outrage any institution, political party, or person, living or dead. The cast & crew of ‘Tandav’ have made the decision to implement changes to the web series to address the concerns raised towards the same,” director and creator Ali Abbas Zafar posted on Twitter.
