“America’s Got Talent: Extreme” has paused production after stunt performer Jonathan Goodwin, a contestant on the show, was hospitalised after suffering severe injuries while doing a daring stunt, according to US media reports.
The accident occurred during a show rehearsal Thursday night, according to TMZ. Goodwin was reportedly suspended about 70 feet in the air in a straitjacket. He was hanging by his feet from a wire and two cars were suspended on either side of him. Goodwin was supposed to free himself and then fall on an air mattress and avoid getting crushed by the cars that were swinging back and forth in the air.

NBC announced the forthcoming show two weeks back, describing it as “the most outrageous, unique and jaw-dropping acts of enormous scale and magnitude that simply cannot be confined to a theater stage.”
However, it is unclear how long production on the talent show will be paused.
Things went wrong when the car crashed into one other, with the stuntman in between them. Soon, the vehicles erupted ‘in a gigantic fireball’, causing Goodwin to fall to the ground. He hit his head to the ground. He was airlifted to a local hospital and underwent emergency surgery.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for “America’s Got Talent” said in a statement to Variety magazine that Goodwin is receiving care at a hospital and was still responsive after the accident.
“During a rehearsal, last evening for ‘America’s Got Talent: Extreme,’ an accident occurred in which escape artist Jonathan Goodwin was injured while performing his act,” the spokesperson said in their statement, according to Variety reports. “He was responsive and was immediately taken to the hospital where he is continuing to receive medical care. Our thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family as we await further updates on his condition.”
