The trailer of the much-anticipated Star Wars spinoff show, Andor, has been released on Star Wars’ official YouTube channel. The series promises to be action-packed and will serve as the prequel to the events of the 2016 film, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Andor will reportedly be set five years earlier than Rogue One, with the first season detailing events across the span of a year.

Andor will follow the origin story of the eponymous character, Cassian Andor, portrayed by Diego Luna, and reveal how the character became a rebel hero. Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker, who appeared in Rogue One as Saw Gerrera, will be reprising his character in the series. Genevieve O’Reilly, Stellan Skarsgård, Adria Arjona, Denise Gough, Kyle Soller and Fiona Shaw will also feature in Andor.

Release date

Although the series was first scheduled to launch on August 31, the new trailer reveals that Disney has delayed the show’s premiere, with the new date being September 21. The first season will have 12 episodes, with Disney having already confirmed a second season, which will span across four years in the story’s timeline, leading into Rogue One.

The actor speaks

Diego Luna presented the trailer of Andor for the first time on the ABC show, Good Morning America. Regarding his character, the Narcos: Mexico actor said, “We’re going to meet him when life is tough, it’s a very dark and interesting life because it’s just a regular guy that suddenly has to become part of something bigger, has to become part of a community that rises”. Disney has been launching a number of Star Wars shows since 2019, namely, The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fet, Obi Wan Kanobi, and now Andor, with almost all of them doing well with the audiences. The shows Ahsoka, Skeleton Crew, The Acolyte, and Lando are also in the pipeline.
