“Right now, the people of Afghanistan are losing their ability to communicate on social media and to express themselves freely,” Jolie captioned the post. “So I’ve come on Instagram to share their stories and the voices of those across the globe who are fighting for their basic human rights,” Jolie’s caption read.
Here is a copy of the letter posted by Jolie.
The post also carries an image of a group of women, covered head to toe in burqa and hijab.
In the letter, the Afghan girl wrote, “Before Taliban came, we had rights and we were able to defend our rights. We used to go to school, work properly.”

The girl also recalled an incident when the Taliban members came to her home. Narrating the day, the girl wrote, ” People say they have changed, but I don’t think so because they have a very bad past. One day they came to our place and we all got really scared.”
“After that day, I thought how will I go to school in this situation. I thought how will I go to school and come home in their existence,” the girl added.
Moved by the sufferings of the girl, Jolie wrote, “It is sickening to watch Afghans being displaced yet again out of the fear and uncertainty that has gripped their country. Like others who are committed, I will not turn away. I will continue to look for ways to help. And I hope you’ll join me.”
In about a few hours of joining the platform, Jolie gained more than 3.8 million followers and her post received more than 1.2 million likes within hours of posting.
