Bernard Cribbins, actor who played Tom Campbell in Doctor Who, dies aged 93

Actor Bernard Cribbins, who is known for his roles in Doctor Who and Wombles, has died at the age of 93. Cribbins’ family and agent confirmed his death on Thursday morning. The cause of death has not been revealed so far.
Tributes started pouring in soon after the news was announced. Russell Davies, the showrunner for Doctor Who, wrote a long message on his Instagram account remembering his co-worker Bernard Cribbins.

“Bernard Cribbins (1928-2022) I love this man. I love him”, he wrote. Davies added, ” A love story for the ages. I’m so lucky to have known him. Thanks for everything, my old soldier. A legend has left the world.”
Bernard Cribbins’ career has spanned over eight decades, and he was most recently seen in Doctor Who and Old Jack’s Boat. He made his acting debut in 1956 while appearing on the TV series The Black Tulip.
Other popular projects that he has worked on include Carry On Spying, Carry On Columbus, The Railway Children, The Fantastic Fear of Everything among many others.
In 2009, was appointed as an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE), which is considered to be one of the prestigious accolades the empire gives to artists. He was also given a Special Award at the British Academy Children’s Awards.

Bernard Cribbins, born in United Kingdom‘s Oldham in 1928, showed his interest in theatre and drama from an early age. He reportedly quit school at the age of 13 and start participating in small skits at the Oldham Repertory Theatre.
In the 1960s, he also took up roles in projects like Right Said Fred and The Hole in the Ground. These later served as a launchpad for Bernard Cribbings.
