Although many parts of India have re-opened, and many people are going back to work, we are still very much in the midst of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. It has been months since the movie theatre chains have shut down and there are no concerts, music festivals or fashion shows to attend so the only saviour in this time are Over The Top (OTT) Platforms.

So what to do while spending time at home during this quarantine period? Well, you can quaran-stream… After you’ve binged “Money Heist” like everybody else, maybe it’s time to watch something new and exciting. From comedies to sci-fi dramas, here’s our list of shows and movies to binge-watch while social distancing.

Stranger Things, Netflix

Are you a fan of the paranormal? This science fiction series pays homage to a 1980s Spielberg inspired world of chopper bikes and walkie-talkies. The Duffer brother’s Stranger Things has all the elements required to make it a hit – comedy, romance, and a whole lot of monster-fighting action. It is a story about four 12-year-old friends in Hawkins, Indiana that befriend a telekinetic supergirl and try to unravel a complicated and strange series of phenomena. Ryder, David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, along with others makes it a good watch. As we move on with the seasons, the tension ramps up and more plot-twist and mysteries are intertwined in this sci-fi series. The fourth season is expected to be aired next year.

Breaking Bad, Netflix

Even if you are someone who is not very social, it’s still unlikely you haven’t at least heard of Breaking Bad. If you are one of those people, perhaps it’s about time you did yourself a favor and watch the series by Vince Gilligan. This is one of the most fantastically written, directed, and executed television dramas you will ever watch. Walter White (played by Bryan Cranston), a chemistry teacher decides to ‘break bad’ and embark on a life of crime as a crystal meth drug kingpin after being diagnosed with terminal cancer in order to provide for his family after his death.

The series has been set against the backdrop of an Albuquerque universe of good, bad, and evil players whose stories unfold over five gripping series. ‘Breaking Bad’ has some of the best actors playing pivotal roles like Giancarlo Esposito, Gunn, Bob Odenkirk, and Dean Norris. Don’t miss this one…

Upload, Amazon Prime Video

This is another interesting sci-fi series where humans are able to upload themselves to their desired versions of  afterlife. In fact, Greg Daniels has managed to turn the afterlife into a very familiar place. The 27-year-old protagonist, Nathan (Robbie Amel) is uploaded to a sort of luxury resort after he suffers a fatal car accident. He is allowed to call and chat with his living friends and family, but can never leave the ‘digital afterlife program’. Nathan soon starts feeling suffocated because of his possessive and still-living girlfriend Ingrid. It is then, when Nathan meets Nora, his living customer service ‘angel’. Nora is struggling with her job, her dying father who doesn’t want to be uploaded, and her growing feelings for Nathan. It is one of the funniest shows to watch right now.

Jamtara, Netflix

It’s a must-watch if you haven’t already. Two young men, Rocky and Sunny run a lucrative phishing scam in Jamtara, Jharkhand. Things were going smoothly until a corrupt politician and a cop got involved with them. Directed by Soumendra Padhi, this crime drama features Amit Sial, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Aksha Pardasany, and Sparsh Shrivastav among others. Jamtara has all the ingredients worthy of a dark thriller – plot, romance, action, and a surprising climax that would keep you thinking about what to expect from the next season.

Lucifer, Netflix

You’ve got to give the devil his dues, especially if the devil is Tom Ellis. ‘Lucifer’, based on DC Comics characters, has created a buzz in no time. The series revolves around Lucifer Morningstar, the protagonist who decides that he’s had enough of being the dutiful servant in Hell and makes sure to spend some time on the Earth to understand humanity better. He settles in Los Angeles- the City Of Angeles where he runs his own nightclub and becomes a consultant to the LAPD. Throughout the series, several celestial and demonic threats come to the Earth, but Lucifer, along with his partner and love interest Chloe end up solving them all. At the end of season 4, we could see them both madly in love, but Lucifer had to leave for Hell. We still have months to wait before Netflix unveils Lucifer Season 5, the newest one of the supernatural crime tragedy. It would be the last season with 16 episodes. Utilize your time in quarantine better, and finish all the four seasons.

Sex Education, Netflix

A teenage boy whose mother is a sex therapist decides to team up with a high school classmate to set up an underground sex therapy clinic at school. Sounds interesting? The best part about sex education is that it manages to make even its most explicit material look sweet and interesting rather than gross and vulgar. The series is not just schooling in sex, but in comedy too.

What are you waiting for? Now that you’ve got the list, stop reading and start watching!
