Dave Hollis, a former Disney executive and the head of the studio’s global distribution, reportedly passed unexpectedly on February 11 at his Austin home. Although his family has not officially disclosed the reason for his passing, it is known that the 47-year-old had been admitted to the hospital for heart problems.

In 2004, he married celebrated author Rachel Hollis. The ex-couple has four children together: Sawyer Hollis, Ford Hollis, Jackson Hollis, and Noah Hollis. They divorced in 2020 after 16 years of marriage.

He later dated author and YouTuber Heidi Powell.

Dave Hollis’s career:

Dave Hollis who was born in California on February 14, 1975, went to the local private school before graduating from Pepperdine University with a Bachelor of Arts in organizational communication.

He started out in public relations, working with Bragman Nyman Cafarelli. Later, he worked for well-known companies including Fox Broadcasting Company, Twentieth Century Fox, and ultimately Disney, where he contributed to a number of films during his stay, including Black Panther, Beauty and the Beast, Avengers, and Star Wars.

Many of Disney’s most successful box office successes, including Marvel Studios’ “The Avengers,” Lucasfilm’s “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” and Pixar’s animated children’s movie “Frozen,” were released during Hollis’ tenure as head of Disney’s distribution operations.

Disney was the leading studio in terms of its domestic market share the year before Hollis left, capturing 22% of ticket sales and dominating rivals despite having made fewer pictures.

Hollis received enormous recognition for his work on Disney movies in 2017, which brought in more than $6 billion globally. This made it all the more surprising when he left the firm less than a year later.

Shortly after leaving Disney, Hollis was named the president of Chic Media, a Texas-based production firm founded by his then-wife Rachel.

He started a podcast called Rise Together where he interviewed professionals from different fields and asked them to give listeners advice on how to enhance various aspects of their lives.

In addition to “Get Out of Your Own Way: A Skeptic’s Guide to Growth and Fulfillment,” Hollis also wrote “Built Through Courage: Face Your Fears To Live the Life You Were Meant For.”

And in “Here’s to Your Dreams! : A Teatime with Noah Book,” a children’s book as well as a children’s picture book, he channelled his Disney storytelling skills.
