The highly anticipated “House of the Dragon,” a new HBO series set 200 years before the events of the mega-hit show “Game of Thrones,” will debut on August 21, the network said on Wednesday. Furthermore, just 12 days later, Amazon is planning to premiere “The Rings of Power,” a big-budget fantasy series based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s saga “The Lord of the Rings,” on September 2. It’s going to be a big fortnight for lovers of The Song of Ice and Fire fantasy, as well as the vast fanbase of Middle Earth fantasy.
“House of the Dragon” is based on George R.R. Martin’s book “Fire and Blood,” and chronicles the narrative of the Targaryen family, ancestors of the main “Game of Thrones” character, Daenerys Targaryen.
