Delhi Capitals captain Shreyas Iyer fined Rs 12 lakh for slow over rate against Sunrisers Hyderabad

Delhi Capitals captain Shreyas Iyer has been fined Rs 12 lakh for his team’s slow over rate in the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Tuesday night. Hyderabad beat Delhi by 15 runs in the match played at Abu Dhabi.

“Delhi Capitals Captain Shreyas Iyer has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their Dream11 Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Abu Dhabi on 29 September 2020,” a statement issued by the IPL stated.

“As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr. Iyer was fined Rs 12 lakh,” it added.

Delhi Capitals is the second team to have been fined for slow over rate after Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore in the match against Kings XI Punjab last week.

Talking about the match, David Warner-led Hyderabad opened their account in the IPL 2020 by defeating the Delhi by 15 runs.

Put in to bat, Bairstow (53 off 48) scored his second fifty of the tournament, while David Warner (45 off 33) and Kane Williamson (41 off 26) also came up with valuable contributions, helping Sunrisers Hyderabad post a competitive 162 for four.

Defending the total, SRH leg-spinner Rashid (3/14) returned with three crucial wickets, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2/25) scalped two and T Natarajan and Khaleel Ahmed (1/43) claimed too chipped in to restrict Delhi to 147 for 7 in 20 overs to seal the win.
