Film critic and journalist Bhawana Somaaya, in her ‘Good Bye Irrfan’ series on Instagram, shared a still of Tabu and Irrfan from the film ‘The Namesake’. Somaaya recalled how the legendary actor had described his Maqbool co-actor as his ‘screen soulmate.’
“Whenever we have worked together it has been magic,” Somaaya, in her post, recalled Irrfan as saying. Irrfan Khan has worked with Tabu in several movies like The Namesake, Maqbool, Life of Pi, Haider, Talvar, and Ghaath.
Somaaya in her post also mentioned about the time when Tabu told her that ‘the credit of transforming Irrfan’s screen persona goes to Vishal Bhardwaj who presented Irrfan a relative newcomer like a star.’
On this instance, the Piku star agreed with Tabu and said that “when a filmmaker believes in the actor, the actor believes in himself and the chemistry is evident on screen and that’s what happened in Maqbool.”
Irrfan died on April 29 at a Mumbai Hospital due to a tumor from which he had been battling for months. He was getting his treatment in London and had returned to Mumbai some months ago. His last film was ‘Angrezi Medium’ co-starring Kareena Kapoor and Radhika Madan, which released only a few months before his death. The actor is survived by his wife Sutapa Sikdar and two sons Babil and Ayan.
