Hip-hop artist Kendrick Lamar has released a short film based on the song We Cry Together, which was the most talked-about number from his recent album, Mr. Morale & the High Steppers. The 35-year-old rapper has himself acted in the short film alongside actress Taylour Paige.

In the film, the two actors play a couple in an abusive relationship who are calling each other the choicest of expletives, dropping numerous F-bombs and N-bombs throughout the length of the video. You can check out the film right here:

In the video, Lamar is seen wearing a blue shirt (usually worn by menial job holders) with the name-tag “Dante S” on it. The name is probably a reference to the same character the rapper had worn for his 2012 song, Collect Calls. Lamar is also wearing a cap that bears the logos of his company, pgLang, alongside that of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

In the video, as the character played by Taylour Paige is getting ready to leave for work, Lamar’s character is seen sitting in a chair. The two keep fighting, get in each other’s faces, and ultimately end up having sex. As the camera pulls away, what appears to be a domestic space is revealed to be a film set, probably hinting at the idea that all relationships are make-believe to a certain extent.

Mr. Morale & the High Steppers received widespread critical acclaim when it was released on May 13, 2022. A number of major publications gave the double album five-star reviews. It also met with some criticism for the inclusion of Kodak Black, a rapper against whom rape allegations had surfaced in 2016.
